Pavees
Pavees also known as Irish Travellers are traditionally normadic people of Irish origin. They have often been subject to discrimination. Many Irish Travellers live in caravans on unauthorised encampments or on Traveller sites. In this series of images I have followed a group of Travellers from London to photograph a very colorful, warm, and vibrant part of their cultural identity.
American Cowgirls
“In Westerns you were permitted to kiss your horse but never your girl” – Gary Cooper
Contemporary cowgirls come from diverse backgrounds and are known as complex individuals – graceful, hardheaded, yet soft hearted.
This series of images depict modern cowgirls attending competions such as Rodeo Queen contest at New Mexico State Fair in September 2009 and Farmington Junior Rodeo in August 2009.
American Cowboys
“You’re a good-looking boy: You’ve big, broad sholders. But he’s a man. And it takes more than big, broad sholders to make a man.” – High Noon
The American popular icon, the cowboy, is the symbolic embodiment of the American dream and works as a metaphor for freedom, independence, and simplicity. The series of cowboys explores rural masculinity mainly focusing on rodeo cowboys.
